In a continued effort to fight against the distribution of counterfeit bearings, NTN Canada is pleased to announce updates to our “Authenti Bear” app. Available on the App Store and Google Play free of charge since May 2017, the “Authenti Bear” app is a QR code scanner that identifies the authenticity of products in NTN packaging.

The first update on this version of the “Authenti Bear” app is the addition of a “Distributor Search” function on the information menu. This function will display only authorized NTN distributors around the globe to help prevent the purchase of counterfeit products from unauthorized dealers.

The second update to the app is the addition of a product number validation on the results screen. Upon scanning the packaging’s QR code, the screen will display a verification of the product and part number onscreen if it is an authentic NTN product. However, if the product in the packaging is counterfeit, the app screen will notify the user with a warning.

The “Authenti Bear” app is one of many measures NTN has taken to validate the authenticity of the bearings labeled NTN. NTN will continue to strengthen countermeasure systems against counterfeit bearings to ensure that customers can trust that the NTN products they use are of the highest quality. In addition to QR codes and holograms on packaging and the “Authenti Bear” app, NTN also supports the World Bearing Association’s campaign on stopfakebearings.com.
